CrashCourse History

There are ways of learning that don’t always involve books – although reading shouldn’t be ignored completely! Documentaries, films, and even YouTube can all help understand big topics brought up in lectures and seminars, or even just to explore a new interest.

I wanted to talk about one of my personal favourites today, the YouTube channel ‘CrashCourse‘. They have covered other subjects over the years, however history remains the largest collection, with over 100 videos across 3 playlists.

US History

The history videos are presented by John Green, who explains things simply and in a fun way – perfect for getting to grips with more confusing topics to begin with. The great thing about the channel is the variety of subjects, and I’ve found useful information in other playlists as well. There’s a US Government playlist, which was great when I was taking a module on US Domestic Politics. There’s even a Study Skills playlist for, you guessed it, study tips!

There are videos on almost any topic you could imagine covering at university, and although it’s no substitute for reading and further research, I’ve used this channel countless times as a starting point, providing an overview before I start. It’s a completely free resource that is definitely, in my opinion, worth a look.
