Good Luck!

University exams start this week, and we’re sure you’re all more than ready for them. But just in case you’ve left it all until the last minute (which is probably not the best plan!) or you just want to make sure you’ve done all you can, we’ve put together some of our favourite tips:

  1. Past papers! Even if you don’t write out full answers (History papers are essay based, so that can take a while) take the time to mind map or list possible points you’d make. Often, questions can be similar to previous years, so you’ll already be a step ahead, having thought about what relevant information you’d include. It’s also good to get practice planning your essays ahead of writing them, and organising your thoughts before jumping in.
  2. It’s possibly not the most time effective, but creating flashcards and mind maps can be great if you’re a more visual learner. Include key points to remember (names, dates, key events etc. rather than lots of space-taking details) and add colour/pictures if that helps. Then go through them whenever you have a few minutes spare. It’s important to still do further research and go through your detailed notes, but flashcards or mind maps are great for those quick reminders when you start to get stressed.
  3. Take breaks! This might sound counter-productive, taking breaks (especially if you’re revising last minute) but it’s probably the most important tip on this list. To be clear, we’re not talking that quick ten-minute break that turns into an all afternoon binge of your favourite shows until Netflix asks if you’re still watching. That definitely is counter-productive. No, we’re talking a quick 5-10minutes to get up, stretch and walk around a little, grab a drink and a snack, and then get back to it kind of break. Your brain needs little breaks every now and again, and it helps you stay focused and your revision sessions more useful.

We hope that helps, and good luck to everyone taking exams over the next couple of weeks!
